I am in favour of looking in to some sort of reduction plan. Many companies have already started getting rid of straws and replacing plastic stir sticks with biodegradable alternatives.
The plastic bag issue is a little more difficult. By having stores charge for the bags it may inspire customers to bring their own, or we could begin offering paper bags as an alternative. The island of Maui completely banned plastic shopping bags and only gives out paper bags. I found the paper bag alternative to be wonderful because they are usually very durable, can be reused for so many different things, can be recycled, and can be made of recycled material. There are also a few companies coming out with biodegradable plastic bags which are designed to break down in an earth friendly way. There are a lot of options that should be considered.
